Sunny day today for this ride into Washington state which should be a great ride. Five bikes and riders started from McDonald’s and kickstands up at 8:00 am and heading to Rusty Wagon for breakfast, Here we joined with two more. we traveled on roads like Silver Lake road to Maple Falls and then over to Mosquito lake Road. Both of these roads are excellent motorcycle roads and normally a delight to ride. But today was very different . About fourteen KM north of Acme, just a little beyond the one way bridge we came upon a tragic scene. Looks like an accident and just happened involving a motorcycle in a curve, They were riding north and one of the four bikes riding together failed to negotiate the curve. Both the rider and passenger were ejected from the bike crossed the center line and then it hit the Barrier on the side of the road and ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road. Unfortunately the passenger did not survive and the rider had serious injuries. Read accident report. https://www.bellinghamherald.com/news/local/article230865249.html

As you can imagine this dampened the spirit of the ride for us. The Langley Roadriders were instrumental in securing the traffic and going 4.5 km to find a house to call 911. as there was no phone service at the accident scene. It didn’t take long for the first responders to arrive with rescue equipment, fire trucks, ambulance and police, there must of been 6 to 8 trucks at least plus a Helicopter above. We were shaken as well so we rode to Acme Diner for coffee and time to calm down. The ride was shortened so we could get home. This is a reminder that we cannot take chances when riding and need to not push the limit.
